We will start with a systematic approach

The Toyota approach is very structured and clear

The Toyota Practical Problem Solving (PPS) is a structured, methodical approach, whose overarching framework is the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle as applied in an A3 report. In contrast to the common (Western) industrial approach (brief problem analysis … brainstorming … implementation), the Toyota method stands out for its very structured, methodical problem identification process.

The A3 report spends a lot of time on understanding the problem

Understand the root cause before you act

It’s remarkable how much effort Toyota dedicates to narrowing down the problem before addressing the root cause and potential corrective actions. While the rest of the world typically rushes to implement the quickest possible solution, often neglecting the “check” and “act” steps after implementation, the PPS methodology explicitly plans for these steps in order to identify any need for further adjustments.
