Schematisches Vorgehen beim Floatglas-Prozess, stark in der Länge gestaucht. Das flüssige Glas wird mit circa 1.100°C in eine Wanne mit flüssigem Zinn gegeben. Glas ist leichter als Zinn und reagiert chemisch kaum mit diesem. Es verteilt sich daher sehr gleichmäßig auf dem Zinn, wie Öl auf Wasser. Über gezackte Räder wird das zähflüssige Glas weiter transportiert. Beim Abkühlen erstarrt zuerst das Glas, während das Zinn noch flüssig ist. Das bereits feste Glas wird vom flüssigen Zinn abgehoben und weiter abgekühlt. Am Ende wird das Glas in Scheiben zerteilt. Die Anlage ist in der Realität mehrere hundert Meter lang, undhier stark verkürzt dargestellt.
