Fall of Phaeton

Fall of Phaeton

Phaethon, son of Phoebus and Climene, dares to drive the chariot of his father’s sun, causing chaos on earth and the intervention of Jupiter with his rays. Rubens drew some sketches, inspired by The Metamorphoses, for the decoration of the Parade Tower. Jan Carel van Eyck painted in oil on canvas (1636-1638) the aforementioned fall of Apollo’s son.
