Commercial aviation is among the safest modes of transport. This is thanks to a continuing improvement process spanning decades (and still ongoing). In this series of posts I will look at how aviation safety improved, using the passenger safety instructions as an example. My first post showed you how it was before the FAA and how it is now. This post looks in particular how the passenger safety institutions (i.e., the cards and the briefings) improved since 1940 thanks to the FAA. Now, pay attention!

Yet, there are many active armed conflicts on the world, like Ukraine, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and others, many of which have been ongoing for decades. I have put together some of my thoughts in the hope that it may help people and factories in difficult circumstances, with special focus on the current invasion of Ukraine.

In meinem letzten Beitrag habe ich mich ausführlich mit einem Beispiel für einen Arbeitsunfall auf dem Set von Alec Baldwin befasst. Auf diesem Set hat ein ungeplanter Schuss mit einer Waffe eine Kamerafrau getötet. Es scheint, dass eine ganze Reihe von Fehlern und Versäumnissen zusammenkommen mussten, um zu diesem tödlichen Unfall zu führen. Das ist in der Industrie auch nicht anders. Eine schwere Verletzung ist selten die Folge eines einzigen Fehlers. Die moderne Industrie verfügt über zahlreiche und oft redundante Sicherheitsmechanismen, um Unfälle zu vermeiden. Dennoch passieren Unfälle. Lassen Sie uns einen genaueren Blick auf die Sicherheit am Arbeitsplatz werfen!

Alec Baldwin und Arbeitssicherheit

Am 21. Oktober 2021 nutzte der Schauspieler Alec Baldwin an einem Filmset eine Requisitenpistole, aus der sich ein Schuss löste, welcher die Kamerafrau Halyna Hutchins tötete und den Regisseur Joel Souza verletzte. Und soweit ich weiß, war es nicht einmal Alec Baldwins Schuld. Die Ermittlungen dauern zwar noch an, aber es sieht so aus, als ob viele Sicherheitsvorschriften ignoriert oder schlampig angewendet wurden. Auch bei Unfällen in der Fertigung und in anderen Industriezweigen gibt es oft nicht nur eine Ursache, sondern mehrere Fehlerquellen, bevor jemand verletzt wird. Ein guter Grund, sich eingehender mit der Sicherheit am Arbeitsplatz zu befassen.
